A portable evaporative cooler is a great way to cool in hot and dry environments. But it’s important to follow the maintenance instructions to maximize its benefits. The key to cleaning an air conditioner is to keep it from smelling musty or moldy. Here are some guidelines on how to clean an evaporative portable cooler
Water Tank
It can create unpleasant odors by continuously using a Portable AC cooler without changing the water. If dirty water tanks are not cleaned frequently, they can be a breeding ground for bacteria in humid environments. Every 3 days, empty and clean out the water tank. It is important to ensure that the water tank does not become a breeding ground for bacteria.
Step1: Remove Panels And Cooling Pad
Turn off the water source and unplug it. Next, take out the panels.
Step2: Drain Water From The Cooler
If the portable cooler has a drain plug you should open it. It’d be much easier if there was a separate water tank.
Step3: Scrub The Inside Of The Cooler
Use a sponge or soft cloth to sweep the inside of an air cooler. Some Debris can get inside it. Blockages can lead to a cooler being clogged and unclean water may be pumped through the cooler.
Step4: Soak The Water Tank Using Vinegar
Pour 50/50 of water & vinegar into the tank. Let the vinegar sit in the tank for about an hour. You can also wash the tank with mild soap using warm water.
Step5: Clean The Water Tank.
Use a brush and a cloth to clean the tank’s bottom. After you have finished scrubbing the water tank, rinse it with clean water.
Clean The Cooling Pad
Cooling pads (also called heat exchangers) are an important component in the operation and maintenance of the fan. You should clean the cooling plates once a month.
Dip The Pads In Vinegar
Allow them to sit in water for 30-60 seconds. Vinegar works equally well. Use vinegar to clean your pads.
Take care not to use vinegar as it can stain cooling pads and be difficult to clean up.
Air-Dried Cooling Pad
Once you have thoroughly soaked the evaporative cooling pads, rinse them and allow them to dry. Be sure to let the pads dry completely before you place them back into the portable evaporative cooling cooler.
Reducing Airflow
The best solution to an air cooler problem is to replace its pads. But, this does not solve your problem. We recommend that you continue with troubleshooting.
Yearly Maintenance
In general, you won’t have to change your pads every year. Evaporative cooling cushions have a different lifespan. This depends on how much and how often the cooler has been used. The longevity of your cooler will also depend on the water supply. You must replace your pad if it is losing its thickness or showing signs of fraying.
